The Indian Animal Studies Collective is pleased to announce an upcoming conversation with Matthew Buttacavoli on his recent essay “An Anthropologist Fails to Become a Fish: Multispecies Sensing in the Anthropocene” (2024) which examines the challenges of understanding non-human sensory worlds through an auto-ethnographic account of listening to the Great Barrier Reef, highlighting methodological failures and epistemic barriers. Can an anthropological pedagogy cultivate a contact space between humans and nonhumans, and can it help improve environmental curricula?
